Lead flashings seal the joints where your roof meets a chimney, wall or dormer, which is where most leaks start. Over time lead can split, lift in high winds or pull away from the mortar joint, letting water track into the property.

We replace failed flashings and soakers with hand-formed lead, dressed to fit each junction and fixed securely into the brickwork.

A valley is where two roof slopes meet, and it carries a lot of water. When the lead in a valley cracks or wears through, water gets under the slates or tiles and into the roof timbers below.

We strip back the slates or tiles either side, replace the valley with new hand-dressed lead, and re-lay the roof covering to a watertight finish.

Ridge and hip tiles cap the top and corners of your roof, the parts most exposed to the wind. Once the mortar underneath cracks, the tiles loosen, can lift or fall, and let rain in.

We re-bed and repoint ridge and hip tiles using flexible mortar, which copes better with movement and stops wind lift and water getting in at the most vulnerable parts of your roof.

A dry ridge system fixes ridge tiles mechanically instead of bedding them in mortar, so there's no mortar to crack and wash out. Dry verge systems do the same for the edges of the roof.

It's a clean, low-maintenance finish, and a good option where ridge mortar keeps failing or as part of a re-roof.

Many older and period properties around Scarborough were built with lime mortar, which lets the walls breathe. Repointing them with modern cement mortar can trap moisture and damage the stone or brick.

We repoint with lime mortar, protecting traditional properties from damp while keeping their character.
